Sea Shepherd and Biode: Why We Are Partnering With The Guardians of the Ocean
In the vast expanse of the world's oceans, a myriad of life forms thrive, creating intricate ecosystems crucial to the health of our planet. Yet, these vital ecosystems face unprecedented threats from human activities such as overfishing, pollution, and habitat destruction. Amidst these challenges, one organization is taking direct action to stop this decline: the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society.
Founded in 1977, Sea Shepherd is a non-profit marine conservation organization dedicated to the protection and preservation of marine life and habitats worldwide. With a mission to defend, conserve, and protect our oceans, Sea Shepherd operates on the front lines of environmental activism, employing direct action tactics to confront and disrupt illegal activities at sea.
At the heart of Sea Shepherd's operations lies a fleet of ships crewed by passionate volunteers from around the globe. These volunteers embark on daring campaigns to intercept illegal fishing vessels, halt the slaughter of marine wildlife, and combat ocean pollution. Sea Shepherd crews engage in non-violent interventions to uphold maritime laws and safeguard marine ecosystems.
Jim Lounsbury, a partner in Biode and staunch environmentalist, had the chance to volunteer alongside the media team on the Allankay during it's recent Australian tour, and created this video for Sea Shepherd about the tour:
After returning from the successful Operation Antartica Defence campaign, the Allankay traveled up the East coast of Australia, where the onboard crew joined thousands of volunteers, to take part in beach clean ups, press junkets and to load up on provisions before heading out to Operation Tuvalu.
According to the Sea Shepherd website, "[Tuvalu] faces severe threats from illegal fishing activities. These operations, primarily targeting tuna and possibly engaging in illegal shark finning, jeopardize not only the marine ecosystem but also the food and economic security of Tuvalu's 12,000 residents," and Operation Tuvalu is "a significant expansion of its efforts to combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing".
In addition to confronting illegal fishing, Sea Shepherd plays a vital role in raising awareness about the devastating impacts of plastic pollution on marine life. Through initiatives like Operation Clean Waves, Sea Shepherd conducts beach clean-ups and plastic debris removal operations, working tirelessly to rid our oceans of harmful pollutants and promote sustainable waste management practices.
Sea Shepherd's efforts also extend beyond direct action campaigns, encompassing education, advocacy, and community outreach programs. By empowering individuals with knowledge and resources, Sea Shepherd inspires a global movement of ocean guardians committed to protecting our planet's precious marine resources for future generations.
As a company dedicated to creating natural skincare products that come from the environment and do no harm to the environment, Biode saw a natural partner in Sea Shepherd. We not only want to raise awareness of their incredible mission but to raise money for their ongoing campaigns to protect the oceans.
Our Sea Shepherd Into the Ocean soap is all-natural and packaged in a completely compostable “return to earth” package that will be gone in less than twenty weeks, ensuring zero waste and no pollution.
